Notes on flattening

  • Gemeinschaftsgefühl is the hardest. In Adler it is not a warm feeling but
    a measure: "the sole criterion of human values" (sources l. 6635). Do
    not translate it into "kindness" or a mood — it is the yardstick against which
    every act is read.
  • Geltungsstreben in the Wolfe text appears as three near-synonyms —
    "striving for power", "striving for recognition", "striving for superiority".
    The slug covers all three; do not split them.
  • Lebensstil: the Wolfe translation uses BOTH "style of life" and "behavior
    pattern" for the same underlying unity; both are quoted under stil-zhizni.
  • inferiority feeling vs complex: keep the two slugs distinct. The feeling
    is universal and the engine of all development; the complex is its
    pathological, congealed form.
